Baptism
Can I have my baby baptised in your church?
If you live in the parish or worship with us regularly then, yes. For all other enquiries contact the Rector.
How do I book a baptism?
You need to come along to one of our preparation sessions first – usually the last Sunday of the month at 3.00 p.m. in St Stephen’s. Contact our church office to enquire.
How many godparents do I need?
The minimum is three godparents – two of the same sex as the child and one of the opposite sex.
Are there any rules on godparents?
Godparents must be baptised in a Christian church. It is preferable that they are also confirmed or adult members of a church that does not practice confirmation.
What is the minimum age for a godparent?
There is no minimum age for godparents, but the chosen person must be mature enough to understand the lifelong commitment and responsibility they are taking on.
When do you hold baptisms?
We arrange the date in consultation with you. Usually, they will be on a Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m. and last about half an hour.

Funerals and Churchyards
Who can have a funeral in church?
Anyone who died in the parish, or at the time of death had a residence in the parish and desires a Christian funeral service.
How do I book a funeral in one of your churches?
Speak to a funeral Director in the first instance. They will liaise with us to arrange a mutually convenient time.
Who can be buried in one of your churchyards?
All of our churchyards are full for new burials. A burial can take place in an existing grave if there is space and all those with a right to burial there agree.
Who can have cremated remains interred in your churchyards?
There are still some spaces for new plots for those who died or were resident in the parish at the time of death. Interment of cremated remains can also be made in an existing cremated remains plot or family grave.
Who maintains the Churchyards?
It depends! Some parts of our churchyards are maintained by volunteers, and some are under the maintenance of Cheshire East Council through Streetscape Services.
What are the Churchyard Regulations?
There are rules about what is allowed and not allowed in a churchyard. The full rules for the Diocese of Chester can be found here: https://www.chester.anglican.org/support-services/churches/churchyards/churchyard-regulations-2007
