Baptism is the way of marking the start of a Christian life. The candidate makes promises to follow Jesus, and either water is poured over them, or they are submerged in a pool to signify that they are being washed clean and starting a new life in God.

You can be baptised at any age, so long as you have never been baptised (or “Christened”) before and you are ready and able to make the required promises. We run courses for adults to help them think about what it means to be a Christian before deciding if they are ready to be baptised.

For someone who has been baptised but is wanting to make promises to follow Jesus as an adult there is a service called ‘confirmation’ where you ‘confirm’ the promises made for you at your baptism in front of a Bishop.

When infants or children who are too young to make the promises for themselves are presented for baptism then godparents make the promises for them. Godparents must themselves be baptised, and preferably also confirmed. We regularly baptise children who live within the Parish of All Saints Congleton. If you live further away but have a connection with one of our churches, then we require the permission of the local parish for a baptism to take place with us.
