Bereavement and Arranging a Funeral
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want... Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Psalm 23
It is part of the cycle of life that all earthly life comes to an end. Christians believe that the end of our earthly life is only the beginning of an eternal life. Death for Christians is not something to fear; it is like a baby having to leave the cosy safety of the womb in order to be born into a new life in a new world.
If you, sadly, have lost a loved one, you are assured of our sympathy and prayers. Feel free to contact one of the ministers on the contacts page.
This page is designed to inform you of where to go locally to arrange a funeral in the Parish of Congleton, or a burial or interment of ashes
where the funeral has been held elsewhere.
The first port of call is one of the local funeral directors. They will advise you on what needs doing straight away, and make arrangements on your behalf with individual churches and other parties, as well as with the crematorium if appropriate, and attend to the legal paperwork for you. They will also deal with any fees ('disbursements'), including church fees. Please use the menu above to see details of our fees.
For more information about funerals, visit the funeral page on the Church of England website (opens in a new window).
We are pleased to work with our local funeral directors, and recommend them equally.

Funeral fees are split between statutory fees and local fees that cover verger's and organist's fees, and administrative obligations such as register entries and returns to the registrar. The funeral fee below includes verger and organist fees but not the variable heating fees charged in all but the summer months.
Our usual parish fees are as follows: | £ |
Funeral in church | |
Burial in churchyard after (or before) a funeral in church
Burial in churchyard on separate occasion
Interment of cremated remains
Service at crematorium or burial elsewhere after funeral in church
Service at the crematorium only |
For interments in one of our churchyards, you may also wish to arrange for the installation of a headstone, or for an additional inscription on an existing one. Information will follow here or may be found on the old website's Enquiries - Churchyard & Graves page.
